Some of our adult clients take part in the program to improve their foreign language acquisition skills or to enhance vocal quality and musical ability. Our clients have achieved better memory, attention and concentration, improved auditory discrimination and comprehension, and improved organizational skills. We also help with better speech articulation, higher level reading and writing skills, better posture and balance, and improved energy and productivity. The Spectrum Center Method incorporates a combination of the Tomatis Listening and sensory integration techniques.

The Spectrum Center uses the Tomatis Method of “sound stimulation” (listening training or auditory training) to treat adults with:

Auditory processing problems
Attention deficit disorders
Dyslexia
Other learning disabilities

We can also help with:

space related phobias
(e.g. agoraphobia, claustrophobia and fear of flying)
                   language disorder
                   communication disorders
vertigo mood disorders such as anxiety
depression

THE PROGRAM

Initial Assessment

Prior to the initial assessment, each client completes a history questionnaire and sensory profile and takes part in an interview with our professional staff. An assessment battery that measures listening skills, auditory processing and sensory integration is administered. For some clients we administer a coping inventory and depression scale. A consultation with our professional staff is included to describe and interpret assessment results and to recommend treatment goals. A written report is also provided. We then create an individualized program for each client to overcome communication, behavioral or learning difficulties.

The listening program is administered in the following manner:

31 two-hour sessions of listening consisting of filtered and unfiltered music and speech. These sessions are conducted, Monday through Friday at:

1:30-3:30 p.m. 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The sessions are divided into three phases: 15-day intensive followed by a 3-5 week break 8-day intensive followed by a 3-5 week break 8-day intensive Fee Schedule

Listening tests and client consultation takes place after every 8 sessions to determine progress
and to recommend home program suggestions. Based on progress, the professional staff
determines at the end of the basic program if further treatment is recommended.

A follow-up assessment is conducted 9-12 months after the first treatment session
and includes a 30-minute consultation to review findings.
